Q. What is interlibrary loan?

Answer

InterLibrary Loan is how the library can get you access to materials we don't currently have in our collection.

Mercyhurst students, faculty, and staff can submit a request for a material via our InterLibrary Loan system (Illiad) and we will try to get it for you asap.

Please do note that InterLibrary Loan can take up to 2 weeks to process and obtain your requested materials.

You can request items like books, book chapters, articles, conference papers, patents, thesis, and more.

To request an item, simply use the InterLibrary Loan link off our homepage and log in to Illiad using your Mercyhurst email username and password (minus the @lakers.mercyhurst.edu or @mercyhurst.edu). First time users may be asked for some information like your name, phone number, and address so we can contact you if there is a problem. Otherwise you'll come to a screen where you'll see the option to put in a "New Request" on the left-hand side and to select the type of material you would like to request:

Then fill in the form it gives you with as much information about the material you want as you have and submit it at the bottom of the page. We'll email you when your material is available for pickup or when it is available electronically.

If you have any questions about Illiad and InterLibrary Loan you can check out our FAQ section or contact the InterLibrary Loan department at 814-824-3988.
